Whenever I meet people, they always ask specific questions about what I do,
and they always add in the word "just," for a few examples:
"what do you do for work? Or are you JUST a mom?"
"Do you JUST stay at home with the kids or are you working or doing school?"
"Must be nice JUST staying at home with the kids, huh?"
"I wish I could JUST stay home, bet you love it, right?!"
"So you're JUST a mom, nothing else?"
JUST. JUST. JUST.
Yes I love my job as a mom, yes I love staying home, but leave the word JUST, out!
As if being a mom is a simple task, as if it's a minuscule job on the plethora of lists of jobs I could be doing.
As if being "just" a mom is something simple and easy, no skills required.
Well, let me tell you this, I am a mom, among so many other things.
I am a chef, I home cook breakfast lunch and dinner every single day while two toddlers tug on my pants and a baby cries for his bottle. (Boys were sick today, so soup and crackers!)
I am a nurse, a booboo healer if you will, I have magical kisses and bandaids that make the pain go away.
I am a referee, I have three boys, refereeing is something that I had to learn!
I am a law enforcer, god knows they need rules or they'd be crazy!
(Picture taken after their UFC death match I caught them doing!)
I am a builder, an artist, a crafter, I make all things playdoh, draw lots of characters and animals,
I build towers out of Legos and blocks.
I am a teacher, I thank god for making me someone who enjoys teaching, wether it's shapes, colors and numbers, or manners morals and prayers, sharing, I'm building polite caring young men that will some day make a difference in someone's life.
I am a hand towel, apparently my pants make for the best wiping spot possible.
I am a stylist, myself and 3 children need to be clothed, no nude neighborhood here!!
I am a target, whats more fun than shooting mommy then saying sorry?!
I am a waitress, yes my kids know how to get up and get their own drinks,
but on days like today when they're sick, I have to know how to wait on them the way they need.
but on days like today when they're sick, I have to know how to wait on them the way they need.
I am a tummy time mat, nothing is more fun than crawling all over momma!
That also means I am a jungle gym!
I am a toy doctor, Optimus for example needed some heavy surgery so the boys said bye before he left for the "hospital" and he'll be back in 3-5 days, thank you amazon for fast shipping!
I am a booger taker, why use a tissue when you could hand it to your mommy as a gift?
"This is for you mommy!" Yuck!
I am a tucker-inner, and monster getter! Checking under the beds and in
closets nightly to ensure it's safe and sound for my boys!
I am a story teller, because why not take the time to tell them stories that they love?
I am a photographer, because how else will I capture images of my memories to look back on when all my kids are gone? (Happy 6 months baby boy!)
I am a master at hiding go seek, they make it pretty easy though not going to lie.
I am a maid, just call me Cinderella! Dishes. Laundry. Toys. Pets. Butts. Sweep.
Everything you could think of, I have to clean it, yep even the peepees!
No room for rashes here!
I am a bed side assistant, they yell in the night, pretty sure I gain wings and fly to their room
before they even get done saying, "mommy!"
I am a coffee maker, you may think that's not part of being a mom, but take care of my kiddos and you'll understand that making coffee must be on your list of expertise!
I am search and rescue personnel, because toys go missing, if mom can't find it no one can!
I am a helper, games, toys, pottying, pooping, splinters, whatever the case may be, I am there to help!
I am a comedian, yes they actually find me funny! I am a singer and a dancer, because yes, they'll ask me to sing to them before bed sometimes, and when a good jam comes on, they grab my hands and ask to dance!
(No pictures of me singing or dancing today though)
I am an encyclopedia, because they must find out what this bug, that color, that animal, those spots, and everything else, really are! I am a theater, on demand theater to be exact, they ask for a movie, boom, it's on the TV within a matter of seconds. (Another lack of picture.)
Oh and I'm physic, yes I have 3 year olds that tell me what they want but I also have a 6 month old that I have to always guess or know what he wants just by the simple sound he makes or look on his face.
Some days I'm even an elephant, a robot, a pirate, and so much more.
Along with all of that, and more, I am Santa, I am the tooth fairy, I am the Easter bunny, I am the valentines mystery, I am all if it.
But most of all, I am the lover, the comforter, the care giver, the safety net, I am JUST their mom.
And if that's the only duty I ever have for the rest of my life, I will be more than okay with that! They light up my life more than anyone, any job, any class, anything ever could.
So next time you ask a mom if they're "just" a mom, remember this: we don't get sick days, there's no such thing as this infamous "Friday" everyone talks about where we get a 2 day break.
There's never a time where we get to call in cause were tired and want to sleep in.
There's no such thing as a "lunch break" or "quitting time".
We don't punch a time clock and anxiously look at the clock cause in reality, were never "off work".
Were on call, on duty, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
So next time you're on your lunch break, quietly eating your yummy sandwich it took you 5 minutes to make, picture a mom standing there with two kids tugging on her pants while standing over a hot stove,
with a baby in the next room crying for his bottle that isn't ready yet,
and that same mom forgetting to even feed herself because she's
too busy making sure everyone else eats and is okay.
At the end of the day, I'm so thankful I have the skills I do so that I could be BLESSED to be a mom,
and not just any mom, a GREAT mom!
And that's only my duties as a mother, not even breaking into being a wife!
Speaking of, it's time to cuddle up to my amazing man and enjoy a nice glass of wine in
hopes no children wake up in the middle of the night this evening.
Even if they do, I'll be glad to get in those extra kisses from the most amazing boys I'll ever know.
(Attempted this picture for so long, this is as good as its getting!)
